The UGA Extension faculty from the Department of Food Science & Technology and the Center for Agribusiness & Economic Development (CAED) will address topics concerning the food product entrepreneur, including:
• evaluating the feasibility of a new business
• business planning and funding
• exploring legal and regulatory issues
• critical quality and food safety concerns
• effective packaging of food products
• reviewing production strategies
• options for marketing your product.
Program highlights include a roundtable discussion with entrepreneurs sharing their experiences and challenges in starting, running, and growing a food business in Georgia.

Workshops Being Offered...
Erosion and Sediment Control Recertification
(Level IA Soil Erosion recertification course. This course is designed to provide you with recertification credits to maintain your certification under the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission education program. It will briefly review the rules and regulations related to erosion and sediment control in Georgia with an emphasis on the recent changes. It will also briefly discuss establishing vegetation at erosion sites and conclude with a field visit to an actual construction site where the course instructors and local inspectors will discuss the strengths and weakness and common problems in erosion and sediment control in the field. Irrigation Design
Workshop will provide basic information and design of surface drip and subsurface drip irrigations systems. The expected audience will be those interested in knowing the basic design of the systems and how to recognize a properly designed system)

This two day certification program is designed for design professionals and plan reviewers that work in Georgia.

The Sustainable Agriculture Summit – Focus on the Future
What: A meeting to obtain stakeholder input on sustainable agriculture in Georgia sponsored by the University of Georgia College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and Fort Valley State University College of Agriculture with Southern SARE. Georgia farmers and stakeholders are invited to this Summit to bring their ideas on critical needs and programs. Featured discussions will include:
- What are the critical needs of farmers interested in sustainable agriculture?
- What information is needed to help farmers develop more profitable and environmentally-friendly production systems?
- What is needed to strengthen the ability of Georgia farmers to directly market their product? Add more value to their products?
- How can we better link agriculture with the consumers?
Program highlights include special speakers, posters, and group discussions on the critical needs for Georgia agriculture.

Rainwater Harvesting Workshop
What: Rain Harvesting Workshop – This Professional Training is part of the American Rain Catchment System Association’s Professional Certification Program http://www.arcsa.org/. In order to improve water conservation in Northeast Georgia, University of Georgia and Texas A & M University have teamed up to offer this in-depth training to professionals and homeowners. Come join us to learn how to conserve water and save money on your water bill. By attending this training you will learn about designing rain harvest systems - downspouts, cisterns, rainbarrels, water features, filters, pumps, pipes, water quality and irrigation options will all be covered.
