Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs

CAES Survey

Dear CAES Faculty and Staff:

Several of our CAES colleagues have received a USDA HEC Challenge grant to enhance the recruitment and retention of diverse students to our college.

One of the mechanisms by which this team intends to accomplish this is to assess the current climate for diversity in CAES and determine the best ways to continually improve it. I have asked Dr. Kecia Thomas to lead an effort in studying the Climate for Diversity in CAES.

I strongly encourage you to take time out of your schedules to complete this survey. It will be extremely helpful in determining where we are as a college and what we need to do to improve the work climate for all of our employees statewide.

Please contact Ron Walcott (caesodr@uga.edu), Louise Wicker (lwicker@uga.edu) or Dr. Thomas (kthomas@uga.edu) directly if you have questions.

A Message from the Dean

Excellence in our programs hinges on our responsiveness to the mission of diversity and inclusion.  The CAES must be increasingly flexible to achieve the land grant mission.  This requires a renewed commitment to increasing our diversity.

We are striving for a cultural transformation of the college.  I envision a CAES that understands the vital role of diversity, solid indices of progress towards our diversity goals, and shared commitment to those goals.  Our success in diversification and inclusion hinges on a shared ownership, commitment that is integral to every unit, every person, and every action.  Our goal is only achievable with leadership at all levels in the college.

We have a strong core of leaders in our faculty, staff and students.  We have strong partnerships in the state, nationally and internationally.  The Dean’s commitment to diversity includes the commitment that the composition of the CAES will reflect our stakeholders, our programs reflect a commitment to diversity, and our policies promote equity, achievement and success of everyone in the CAES community.
