CAES Diversity Awards: The annual College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Diversity Awards will be presented this year on October 6, 2009, to coincide with the D. W. Brooks Awards.
Building the Diversity Pipeline in STEM: A Lunch and Learn Series: In an effort to improve the participation of Minority and Underrepresented students in the Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines at UGA, the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, in collaboration with the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, is pleased to announce a Lunch and Learn Series entitled “Building the diversity pipeline in STEM”. This series of workshops is funded by a USDA CSREES Higher Education Challenge grant entitled “Enhancing participation and quality of the undergraduate experience for minorities in food and agricultural sciences.” The series will be facilitated by Dr. Kecia Thomas who is a Professor of Applied Psychology and the Senior Advisor for Inclusion and Diversity Leadership to the Dean of Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. This series is intended to provide participants with the tools to recruit, mentor and effectively manage diversity in STEM disciplines. Dean Angle strongly encourages all CAES faculty and staff to participate in this series as there is great potential for these skills to contribute to our effectiveness in executing the land grant mission.

October 26-28 - First Triennial Conference on Latino Education and Immigrant Integration sponsored by the University of Georgia's Center for Latino Achievement and Success in Education's (CLASE): The conference, which will be held at the University of Georgia's Center for Continuing Education, is designed to promote a forum where a range of stakeholders including academics, researchers, grass-roots organizers, policy-makers etc. can meet to discuss the growing need for focused research and cogent policy regarding immigrants and education, particularly in the rapidly changing southeast.
