Area Extension Agent – Commercial Blueberry
Office: Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication
Description: A Master’s degree in Horticulture, Plant & Soil Sciences, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Natural Resources, or closely related area is preferred (a Bachelor’s degree in an applicable area will be considered)
The incumbent is expected to provide programming for UGA County Extension Agents and commercial clients on issues related to the blueberry industry with emphasis on applied research projects (additional audiences include other public agencies, commodity and conservation groups, community and business leaders, volunteers, youth and elected officials)

Laboratory Technician III
Office: Crop & Soil Sciences College
Description: Bachelors degree and some related experience or equivalent combination required. The position will provide technical assistance to several grant-funded projects. The main project involves the development of molecular tools and genetic mapping of switchgrass, a biofuel crop. Most of the research will be laboratory-based, but will include the growing and maintaining of plants required for the project in the greenhouse. The main techniques that will be applied are molecular analyses (mainly PCR-based), DNA gragment analyses and bioinformatic analyses. After an initial on-the-job training period, the post-holder is expected to work largely independent. Data analysis and interpretation will be conducted in collaboration with a post-doc or faculty member. He/she may also be involved in training of new staff, visiting scientists and students. Research Station Superintendent

Oversee all aspects of operations at the Stripling Irrigation Research Park in Camilla, Ga. Will interact with UGA scientists and educators (primarily from the UGA Campus at Tifton) but also those from the National Peanut Research laboratory, Albany State University, the Jones Ecological Research Center and other cooperating institutions. The Superintendent will plan, organize, supervise and participate in the day-to-day operations of the facility and its cropping systems. The Superintendent reports directly to the Asst. Description: Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences or one year experience in a physiology lab. The individual who fills this position will be expected to work as part of a team investigating factors that regulate metabolism and energy balance. The individual will be expected to conduct animal experiments, monitoring the animals on a daily basis, carrying out specific surgical procedures, and assisting with tissue collection and processing. Experience with basic lab techniques such as pipetting, making solutions, preparing and running agarose gels is required. Experience with routine procedures with small research animals, such as giving injections, is required. Experience with small animal surgery and preparing tissue sections for immunohistochemistry is preferred.
