Student Recruitment

Bringing in higher student numbers

The staff of the Office of Communications works with the those in Academic Affairs to assist with one of the college's highest priorities – recruitment. OC staff develops Web sites, brochures, flyers, exhibits, as well as writes news stories on students and the college. The college "dawg" illustration is the brainchild of Jay Bauer, senior graphic artist. Jay is constantly developing new iterations of the "dawg" for departments, units, and locations for recruiting purposes. Recently, it was our pleasure to release the story on the college reaching the highest students numbers in history!

Crop & Soil Sciences

New departmental Web site released

Crop and soil scientists are responsible for the world's food, feed, and fiber supply, and for conserving our soil and water resources. The department's goals are to provide the best educational programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels; conduct innovative basic and applied research programs in the crop, soil, turf, and environmental sciences; and to provide superior service to its clientele. OC Web developer Cindy Esco worked with the department to restructure and streamline its Web content using the CAES template system.

Sunbelt Expo 2008

Photo: CAES dawg and visitors to the CAES buildingOC helps tell the CAES story

During the 31st annual Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie, Ga., last month, the thousands of people who visited the UGA permanent building there had the chance to learn firsthand about what the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences does to improve lives in Georgia. And OC was there to help tell the story.

OC staff created featured CAES Expo exhibits, brochures and handouts, helped arrange stage presentations for CAES researchers and UGA Extension personnel and stocked and sold college items in the building's store. Two CAES "dawgs" designed by OC captured attention outside the building's two entrances and held the daily event schedules. The OC-designed handheld "dawg" fan was a cool — and much appreciated — giveaway item. OC news editor Brad Haire provided photography and news coverage, too.

Holiday Food

Special section on Georgia FACES

As the holidays near extension agents and specialists begin getting the age-old questions: How do I cook a turkey? Should I buy a fresh or frozen turkey? Will cranberry sauce come out of a white table cloth? We answer most of these questions and more in the 2008 Holiday Food Special Section released on Georgia FACES Nov. 6. Please feel free to use these stories in your local newspapers, radio reports, newsletters and other publications to help maximize your time over the next few weeks.
