Disaster Response Plan
Team takes action during hurricane season
When Tropical Storm Fay set her sites on South Georgia, UGA Cooperative Extension enacted the newly developed Disaster Response Plan. A core team including Extension administrators Beverly Sparks, Steve Brown and Tony Tyson; Homeland Security coordinator Don Hamilton, Don Gardner, Glynn County agent, Lannie Lanier, SE District director, Tony Roberts, SW District director, Faith Peppers, crisis communication coordinator and Amanda Sweenes, publications editor met daily to discuss developments. Preliminary plans were set into place to bring in back-up agents to help in the disaster, to secure county offices and data, to protect employees and to have educational materials available to agents to help clients before, during and after the storm. Final damage and response assessments are still being gathered.
