Flavor of Georgia
Annual food products competition
Georgia food products were on the minds of an OC writer and designer earlier this year as they worked on the third annual Flavor of Georgia food contest. The project, for the UGA Center for Agribusiness and Economic Development, consisted of two news articles, catalogue design and editing, banner design and photography.
This year's winner was Caroline Harless of Swainsboro, Ga., with Flat Creek Aztec Cheddar.

Southscapes magazine
Spring issue
Chickens may currently sit on the agricultural throne, but Georgia is still known across the world as The Peach State. The current issue of the college's Southscapes magazine profiles two members of the Lane family, one of the state's top peach producers. The Lanes are among an ever-growing group of farmers who are branching out into agritourism. The magazine's cover story profiles a handful of these farmers who, in addition to growing Georgia crops, are opening up their farms to the public for 'agritainment' ventures. Read about the latest in agritourism, as well as research, teaching and Extension stories, in the spring issue of Southscapes.

In the news
Top stories on Georgia FACES
Each week, news stories about research, teaching and Extension projects within the college are released to newspapers across the state through the Georgia FACES Web site.
UGA-bred turfgrasses — Eighty percent of the world's surfaces planted in warm-season grasses are planted in Tif varieties bred on the Tifton Campus. If you've walked on a golf course, athletic field or newly established landscape anywhere in the world, chances are you stepped on a Tif variety turfgrass developed by CAES scientists.
CAES research on leaner poultry — Chicken is already one of the leanest meats around, but CAES researchers are working to make it even leaner and healthier for humans. By studying the body and genetic makeup of chickens, a UGA geneticist hopes to help chickens convert their food into muscle mass, not fat. This will in turn make chicken that's more healthful for consumers to eat.
