Jay Bauer

After working for five years as a technical illustrator in Seattle, Wash., Jay Bauer moved to Georgia and settled in at the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in April 2000. As a senior graphic designer, Jay adds the visuals to everything from brochures to posters to ads. He does much of the hand-drawn illustration work for CAES, often spending his days "on the board" to get a recruitment poster or brochure just right.

He also works with 3D pieces, such as the display in Dean J. Scott Angle's office and the medal for the CAES Outstanding Service Award.

As an artist, Jay has brushed shoulders with Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel, among others, and has built furniture for the late Chuck Jones. A three-time Academy Award winner and Warner Bros. most famous director, Jones was the creative force behind Wile E. Coyote, Road Runner and many Bugs Bunny cartoons.

Jones' daughter commissioned Jay for two pieces – a chaise lounge from the famous Bugs cartoon "What's Opera, Doc?" which can be viewed at www.grumpyhoosier.com and a chair from the original "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," which Jones used "to sit in at board meetings," Jay said.

Besides building furniture, Jay is also an "enthusiastic but poor guitar player" and paints. "The fact that my paintings aren't rectangular seems to be one thing that everybody notices," he said.

Jay lives in Hoschton with Kate Holt, a fat black cat and three dogs.
