The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule is the first federally regulated standard for growing, harvesting, packing, and holding fresh produce in an effort to reduce microbial contamination and foodborne illness outbreaks. If you grow fruits or vegetables, attend a training for information about best practices, risk management, and regulatory requirements. The PSA Grower Training Course is one way to satisfy the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirement.During this one-day workshop, trainers will spend approximately eight hours of instruction time covering content contained in the seven modules below.• Introduction to Produce Safety• Worker Health, Hygiene, and Training• Soil Amendments• Wildlife, Domesticated Animals, and Land Use• Agricultural Water (Part I: Production Water; Part II: Postharvest Water)• Postharvest Handling and Sanitation• How to Develop a Farm Food Safety Plan Lunch will be provided! Email annie.carter1@uga.edu with any dietary restrictions and/or food allergens. We cannot make changes to the order the day of the event. Cancellation Policy For cancellations, please email efs@uga.edu.Cancellations made a week or less before the event will not be refunded. Cancellations made prior to a week before the workshop will be issued a full refund. All workshops and courses are subject to cancellation by Food Science and Technology Extension. In this case, full refunds will be issued to all who have paid registration fees. This one-day course is an introduction to good agricultural practices. Small-scale fruit and vegetable growers will learn skills necessary to draft a food safety plan, identify safety concerns, and build knowledge on certifications and resources.This event will take place on May 14th, 9am-3pm.Location: Old Rucker Farm, 900 Rucker Road, Alpharetta, GA 30004Registration closes on May 7th, 2025.Lunch is included. Our statewide research impact

The Research and Education Centers (RECs) play a central role in this mission by providing faculty and students with the opportunity to conduct experiments across a wide range of environments and production systems. CAES has eight off-campus REC facilities located throughout the state.

This research network is vital to Georgia agriculture and collectively allows faculty and students to address local production concerns as well as to answer more fundamental research questions and further the development of new technologies related to agriculture and natural resources.

Lady Belle wins 2025 Flavor of Georgia food product contest
A baked good secured the top spot at the 2025 Flavor of Georgia food product competition, beating out a record 173 products submitted in 12 categories. Sunday Dinner Griscuits, produced by Lady Belle, is a French gougeres, or cheese puff, stuffed with macaroni and cheese flavored grits with collard greens and smoked turkey. Lady Belle is a French-Southern fusion micro-bakery specializing in handcrafted Parisian style macarons, Belle (Signature) Macarons and savory Gritscuits.

Six years after founding the Great Southeast Pollinator Census, Becky Griffin held something remarkable in her hands — a children’s book inspired by the project she built from the ground up. "The Great Pollinator Count," written by Susan Richmond and published by Peachtree Publishing, is set to hit physical and digital bookshelves on April 15. The book celebrates the power of community science, pollinator conservation, and the educators and students who bring it all to life.
