Frank McGill, 92, affectionally known throughout the Georgia agricultural community as “Mr. Peanut,” received the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences’ Medallion of Honor during a private event on Thursday, May 2, on the UGA Tifton campus.

Since 1972, the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) Alumni Association has housed the Georgia Agricultural Hall of Fame. With Georgia being home to such visionaries as Martha Berry, D.W. Brooks and Glenn Burton, the hall of fame plays an important role in telling the story of 20th- and 21st-century agriculture in the U.S.

Crawford County peach farmer Robert Dickey has been named the 2019 Georgia Farmer of the Year. A fourth-generation farmer, Dickey manages approximately 1,000 acres of peaches and 3,000 acres of timberland with the help of his 90-year-old father, Bob Dickey, his wife, Cynde Dickey, and their son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Stacy Dickey.

National Ag Week Salute

For members of the U.S. Armed Forces deployed overseas, it can be hard to be away from loved during the holidays. With Valentine’s Day coming up, the UGA Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences Club (MANRRS) is collecting little extras for deployed troops to let them know that people back home are thinking of them.
With the help of the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Ratcliffe Scholarship Program, Jacqueline Kessler, a fourth-year environmental economics and management major, took an internship with the Environmental Law Institute remotely while participating in an exchange program in Pamplona, Spain.
