Building schools and communities through partnerships webinar

By Catherine Jones

Hear how schools are leveraging community partnerships, state and federal resources to holistically meet family needs in an upcoming webinar presented by University of Georgia Cooperative Extension.

School teachers, community leaders and Extension professionals are encouraged to join via Zoom Thursday, Feb. 4, at 10:30 a.m. to hear Leigh Colburn, an education consultant and former high school principal, speak on her common-sense community approach that addresses the external factors that get in the way of student health.

Providing wraparound student and family services related to housing, abuse, addiction, emotional and mental health, food and clothing needs, job skill readiness, parent education, probation, college preparation and career coaching comprehensively ensures more prosperous conditions for student health and success.

Mandy Marable, state 4-H Extension specialist, and Lee Anna Deal, Southeast District 4-H program development coordinator, will introduce and help lead this session. Georgia 4-H has a strong history of school partnerships, delivering programs during and after school.

“University of Georgia Extension agents and staff are uniquely positioned to serve as a ‘community connector’ in support of a school’s effort to offer wraparound services. We are excited to share this concept with faculty and staff and to begin to discuss school partnerships through this lens,” said Marable.

Attendees will leave with practical and actionable frameworks for revolutionizing student support in the public education system.
