The next AAMGA Meeting will be October 21st at 6:00 pm. The meeting will be held in the Auditorium of the State Botanical Garden of Georgia.

Our speaker will be Debra Davis. She is a Master Naturalist and she will be speaking on Mushrooms in the Garden.

Monthly meetings are held at 6:00pm on the third Tuesday of each month. The November meeting will be on the 18th and Dr. Robery Wyatt will be speaking. Meeting location varies, please check the website or newsletter for updates.

This is a membership organization, you must be a member to attend monthly meetings. Current master gardeners please notify Brenda Beckham if you plan on bringing a guest. Or if you would like to find out what the group is like by attending a meeting please contact Brenda Beckham at (706) 549-0981.

  • Plant a Row for the Hungry at Clarke Middle School. Contact Merry Anderson at 706-549-4121 for more information.
  • Talmadge Terrace/Lanier Gardens: Working with senior citizen residents on garden related craft projects. Contact Suzanne Murphy at 706-543-9371 for more information.
  • Welcome Sign on Highway 78 at the Pepsi plant: Maintenance of the landscape directy surrounding the sign. Contact Lynn Beckmann at 706-583-3620 for more information.
  • Howard B. Stroud Elementary School butterfly and herb garden: Working with and educating HBS students and their parent on beautification of a small courtyard on the school grounds. Contact Randy Elmore at 706-548- 7920 or Carole Holmes at 706-353-8568 for more information.
  • Flower beds at the Plant a Row Site. Contact Carol Wolf 706-613-1122 for more information.
  • Rain Barrel Construction. Local Master Gardeners modify food grade 55 gallon barrels into rain barrels and sell them for $40 each. Contact BJ Garrett at 706-310-0560 for more information or you can purchase barrels at Thyme After Thyme in Winterville 706-742-7149.
  • Athens-Clarke County Extension Office Master Gardener desk: assist the County Agent with homeowner plant, insect and disease questions. This is a great learning experience. Contact Amanda Tedrow at 706-613-3640 for more information.
  • MLK trash pick-up: Athens Area Master Gardeners pick up litter along the MLK corridor quarterly. Please contact Robert Wolf for more information.
  • Women's Services container gardens: display containers are maintained by AAMGA members. PLease contact Jackie Williams for more information.

 

AAMGA Special Events

  • Plant Sale - Each spring AAMGA holds a plant sale. All plants sold at the sale are grow by our local Master Gardeners. Project coordinator to be announced.
  • Athens Home and Garden Show Master Gardener Booth. Held each year at Classic Center in early spring AAMGA has a booth to answer gardening questions and share Extension Publications. Project coordinator to be announced.

AAMGA Membership Information

  • If you are interested in joining Athens Area Master Gardener Association please contact Susan Drinkard for an application or more information at 706-549-2988 . You can also contact Amanda Tedrow at 706-613-3640 for more information. Yearly dues are $10 for active Master Gardeners and $15 for friends of the association. Dues must be recieved by April 30th each year to remain in the association.
