Small Farmers' Workshop Set in Fort Valley

The TAG Workshop for Small and Beginning Farmers March 22 at Fort Valley State University offers timely information that can make a big difference on small farms.

TAG, or Team Agriculture Georgia, is a team created by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Agriculture Council in Georgia. Its purpose is to find ways to collaborate in helping small and beginning farmers in Georgia.

The March 22 workshop will offer four sessions, each an hour and 15 minutes long. Participants can choose from 10 topics: local marketing, water management, vegetables, fruit and pecan orchards, financing small farms, goats and small livestock, ponds, organic farming, aquaculture and alternative crops.

The program will begin with 8 a.m. registration in the C.W. Pettigrew Farm & Community Life Center in Fort Valley, Ga. It will end at 3:45 p.m. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
