Summary
Professional landscapers can use several “best management practices (BMPs)” to protect the environment while installing and maintaining landscapes. BMPs may benefit landscaping businesses by decreasing fertilizer, pesticide or fuel expenses. Landscapers may also be able to enhance their recycling or reuse of materials. Providing environment-enhancing landscaping services can provide landscaping business with a niche market while serving as an effective marketing tool to the broader community. Maintaining an environmental management checklist can help you monitor, assess and then work to enhance your environmental stewardship. In addition, employee training and good communications are critical to ensure that the stewardship objectives of the business are implemented.
