The Georgia Agricultural Hall of Fame

Omer Clyde Aderhold

  • Born: November 7, 1899, Lavonia, Georgia
  • Died: July 4, 1969
  • Honored: September 27, 1991

Occupation: Teacher of agriculture; school principal; superintendent of public schools; dean of the University of Georgia College of Education; and president of the University of Georgia.

Accomplishments: Dr. Aderhold founded the University of Georgia Future Farmers of America, the first collegiate chapter in the United States. His publications have guided vocational educators for more than 40 years. He saw that the College of Agriculture progressed with the same vigor as other schools and colleges in the University. He ensured that the Cooperative Extension Service and the Georgia Agricultural Experiment Stations were an integral part of the University system. His influence on the entire University of Georgia makes him one of the most important leaders in the history of our state.
