Control of Herbicide-Resistant Weeds in Georgia
Georgia growers want non-selective applicators to help them control herbicide-resistant weeds, particularly glyphosate- and ALS-resistant Palmer amaranth. UGA crop and soil sciences in Tifton conducted research in 2010 to evaluate several non-selective applicators for their potential to control large Palmer amaranth plants that escaped earlier control tactics. Results of this research led to the development of a 24(c) Special Local Needs Label for the use of Gramoxone Inteon, or paraquat, in peanuts. Prior to this, there were no herbicides registered for this type of use.
