LEAD21 - A National Leadership Program for the Land-grant System
Summary
LEAD21 was created to develop leaders within the land grant university system that have a better understanding of how to work collaboratively and effectively within and outside of their institution. Class VIII of LEAD21 has 83 participants from varying institutions within the land grant system (1862s, 1890s, 1994s, and USDA/NIFA), including five faculty from UGA.
Situation
Faculty within the land-grant university system need to have a better understanding of how to work with and manage others to continue to fulfill the land-grant mission in teaching, research, and extension.
Response
Class VIII of LEAD21 began its work in April 2012 with 83 participants from varying institutions within the land grant system (1862s, 1890s, 1994s, and USDA/NIFA). In June 2012, the participants came together for their first session in Indianapolis to learn more about themselves and leadership within the land grant system. Participants met again in October 2012 to better understand the change process and how to lead others through change.
Impact
Participants have gained a better understanding of themselves and how they can become better, more effective leaders within their home institutions and in future leadership roles within the land grant university system as a whole.
