The University of Georgia hosts commencement ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students. We encourage students to participate in these campus-wide events. For more information and any questions regarding UGA commencement, please visit

A note about summer candidates:
Graduation ceremonies are held in May and December. Undergraduate students completing their degree requirements in summer are invited to participate in the May graduation ceremonies. Graduate students completing their degree requirements in summer are invited to participate in the December graduation ceremonies.

CAES Convocation

Convocation is a more personal ceremony in which undergraduate and graduate candidates of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences are recognized by name on stage. Guests are welcome and encouraged to attend. All are invited to a reception at the Georgia Museum of Art immediately following the ceremony. The event is free, and tickets are not required, but student registration is required.


In addition to registering for the UGA undergraduate ceremony, a separate registration is required for student participation in CAES Convocation. Registration for the fall ceremony has closed. For questions regarding CAES Convocation registration, please contact Kelly King at

Academic Regalia

Academic regalia must be worn to participate in CAES Convocation. Caps, gowns, tassels, etc. are available for purchase at the UGA Bookstore through the day of the ceremony. Your tassel color depends on your degree program. All BSA and BSAB degree candidates wear maize (light yellow). All BSES degree candidates wear mint green. Candidates should wear their tassels on the right side before commencement and on the left side afterward.

Arrival Instructions

11:00AM       Doors open
11:30AM       Students arrive to check in and form the processional

12:00PM       Ceremony begins

Candidates must check in outside Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall of the Performing Arts Center at least 30 minutes before the ceremony begins. Candidates who registered beforehand will pick up a name card and line up with fellow candidates by program of study.

In consideration of other participants, we ask that students make alternative arrangements for service dogs in training.


Parking for all graduation ceremonies is free. The nearest lots to CAES Convocation are the Performing Arts Center deck and surface lots E11 and E07.


A photographer will be at CAES Convocation to capture high-quality photos of candidates with the dean, as well as group and candid shots. These photos will be available for download by students and guests in an album on the CAES Flickr account a few weeks after the ceremony.


It is the student’s responsibility to apply for graduation and to ensure that the correct address is on file with the Office of the Registrar. Diplomas are typically mailed within 4 to 6 weeks after the official graduation date.
