Germany: Food Industries in Germany and Italy

About this Program

This 6-credit experiential learning opportunity will take place in Bavaria, Germany, and Bolzano, Italy during Maymester 2026. It will begin on Saturday, May 9 and end on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

“Guten Appetit: Study of the Food Industries in Germany and Italy” takes UGA students into the global context, and provides them with a unique opportunity to observe, experience, and learn how traditional Germanic and Italian food commodities are processed into finished products, ultimately creating traditions and culture for the countries. Germanic and Italian food production will be examined in-depth and will focus on meat and meat products, brewing distilleries, winery, bakery, coffee, and dairy industries.

The tour approach throughout Bavaria, the largest state in Germany with a diverse food industry, and Bolzano, Italy will help students appreciate the global diversity of agricultural practices and reflect upon those for commodities of interest in Georgia - all while allowing them to experience profound socio-cultural interactions and realizations that will help them to better understand cultures both in the U.S. and abroad!
